What happens when a low-key Valentine’s, a Daytona pileup, and a fugitive with a crush collide? We start where real life lives: choosing a home-cooked ribeye over roses, swapping overpriced dinners for time that actually matters. Then we take a hard turn into the Daytona 500’s late wreck, the hypnotic pull of curling, and the brutal calculus of skeleton runs where face-first at 50 mph meets ice that feels like concrete. Risk is a thread through it all—how we chase it, misread it, and try to manage it when the stakes jump from fun to life-changing.

From there, we push into the places comfort TV never goes. Seniors and property tax: is it fair to keep charging people to stay in homes they already paid off? Drug ads at family hour: why should a twelve-year-old need a crash course in side effects between sitcoms? And food safety: glyphosate debates, Roundup lawsuits, and a promising shift toward precision tools like laser weeders that target plants and pests without drenching fields. Not everyone can grow their own food, so smarter tech has to meet us where we are—scaling clean practices without killing yields.

Our main story brings it home. We bonded out “Steve” on a larceny case, he missed court, and we reeled him back in with help from a friend. After a second bond and another miss, we used the same weakness—his fantasy date—to find him hiding at an abandoned house. The twist arrives in the backseat on the ride to jail, where he texted “the girl” to beg forgiveness. The number was ours the whole time. It’s funny until the policy part hits: the Bond C rule in North Carolina makes a third miss catastrophic for bondsmen, pushing many defendants into long pretrial holds and clogging local jails. We break down why it happens and share practical fixes: reminder systems, transport support, and risk-tiered conditions that boost court appearance without blanket punishments.

We wrap with something special: a live event on April 12 featuring Dog the Bounty Hunter and Leland Chapman, plus news on Leland’s upcoming show. Grab tickets via the link in our description at offthehookbail.com, come hang with us for a live taping, and get signatures and merch while you’re there. If this episode hit your brain—or your funny bone—follow, rate, and leave a review. Then tell us: what single policy would you change first—property taxes for seniors, drug ads on TV, or Bond C? Your take might lead our next show.

Cold Open And Hosts Check-In

SPEAKER_00

These are real stories, but the names have been changed.

SPEAKER_01

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was it was just chill. I mean, we were out there with some neighbors and stuff like that. It was kind of a group Valentine thing because you get to a point in uh your relationships and you're like, you know, you you figure out buying flowers and candy and all the stupid bullshit is uh it's kind of a waste. Yeah. You know, and I'm glad that uh my other half sees that and is like, yeah, don't don't she get mad at me if I spent money on on roses and stuff.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Well, I'm well, I'm you know, that's that's pretty cool. Uh I I I like I like that.

SPEAKER_03

She'd rather spend it somewhere else. She's smart, she's smart like that.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Um, well, I gotta give a big shout-out because I know she listens to my fiance's mother. Thank you so much. It was absolutely awesome dinner that we had. She cooked dinner for us. Oh, nice. And we all sat around as a family on Valentine's Day, had a big old fat ribeye. It was so good. Baked potato and salad. Oh, it was so good. So that was our Valentine's name.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

That's I mean, that's pretty much it. That's you know, same thing here. We don't spend a bunch of money that don't need to because, you know.

SPEAKER_03

We're gonna spend it somewhere else. I mean, we just came back from Florida for eight days. Yeah, yeah. That was some of our dinners were$300 for freaking it was obnoxious. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh so uh Well, we got a kitchen that's about to be ripped out, so glad to get a break.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're gonna be needing uh some help.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, anybody wants to bring me food by uh me and a family food by You won't have a kitchen for two months. I don't have a kitchen for a couple months, it's gonna suck, but uh I might come uh come over and uh eat at your pad.

SPEAKER_03

I'll cook it up, man. I cook a lot of meat.

SPEAKER_01

Heck yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. I love it. I love it. That's great. We can see a freaking dog taking his shit across the street. Lovely. I was like, I was like, what are you looking at? It's like we have people walking by all the time and like you know, the battleships in front of us, and they uh walk their dogs.

Daytona 500 Recap And Big Wreck

SPEAKER_01

So all right. So moving on to what happened this weekend, like the Daytona 500. Did you see the Daytona 500?

SPEAKER_03

I just saw something um happen that was um Right uh what was it with Michael Jordan? All right, so it was Michael Jordan's team that won. Oh, okay, because they were like Michael won. I'm like, he did, he drove. No, no, no. I hate when people say that. We won. Like, what did you do?

SPEAKER_01

Uh no, it was uh it was uh Taylor. Uh damn, I can't remember his name now. I don't watch much uh racing anymore since you know Earnhardt died. But it was a cool, cool little wreck at the end there. I'm gonna play it for you guys so you can see it. Hang on, here we go. And cool wreck.

SPEAKER_03

Did you see it? Oh, yeah. Uh yeah, people love the wreck. You could really see the moment ships go for the inside the inside.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, he took the line, bro. Not clear.

SPEAKER_03

Oh. Dude, that was how many people were left after that?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, dude, I I don't know. But that was pretty, that was a pretty gnarly wreck.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And uh congratulations, Tyler, because I did uh I did see it because I was born.

SPEAKER_03

You see the one his father died?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, his dad passed away. Okay, just passed away. And so it was kind of it was kind of cool to see that. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's that's you know that's nice.

Winter Sports Crashes And Curling

SPEAKER_01

Um, but other than that, uh congratulations to Tyler Reddick. That's it. Uh I didn't get it right.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we were um we were up seven mile and uh with the neighbors, and um all standing around outside, and you got the TV screens out there and everything, and watching, watching the Olympics. Yeah, dude. Watching curling. Hey, that's I was like, what a dump, but it's kind of cool at the same time.

SPEAKER_01

I can watch that over and over for hours.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was you know, and I was talking with uh one of my neighbors next to me, and he was explaining this and that. I'm like, why do they get the you know, I was trying to figure out the rules, right? You know, and uh it's pretty cool.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, I well speaking of since we dated, I got pulled up some videos from some crashes. Yeah, it's like crash, it's like crash weekend. Oh everybody's crashing.

SPEAKER_03

This is like oh, you're talking about something else.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is in Milan. So this is the winter Olympics. Uh let's see, it's it's a quick little minute, almost two-minute video of um excuse me, of some crashes going on. Let's see here.

SPEAKER_02

Before you're from Michigan, here we go.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, look at these dudes.

SPEAKER_03

Like, these are the best of the best. I mean, pretty controlled for a high speed crash like that.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, but dude, like how cool is that?

SPEAKER_03

And then but Yeah, that's the one I was watching kids like 21 years old, like just going crazy up there.

SPEAKER_01

These dudes are like the best of the best, and they I mean, even even they crash and burn. That's gnarly, gnarly, gnarly. Ow. That's gotta hurt. Oh, dude, if I if I did that right there, I'd be hurting for like months.

SPEAKER_03

Ankle would be yeah. I used to ski back where I'm from a little bit. Man, twist your ankle in one good time. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, man. I I uh I don't want to do that. I'm I'm I'm over that.

SPEAKER_03

Man, I I can't even Did you see the uh skeleton races?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever you want to do.

SPEAKER_03

Where you like have that little it's like the creeper that you crawl underneath your uh truck under to change the oil or something, and you call it a creeper, and you like run with that and throw it down and you like lay face for it and go down this insane track. Yeah, dude, it that's that's insane that's gnarly.

SPEAKER_01

I seen some pictures of like uh of like somebody who like crashed, but it wasn't bad. Right. But it had like a real big bruise here, and like it looks gnarly, dude. Like you hit ice, dude. It it's like hitting like concrete.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well, yeah, they're they're they're moving. I think they were in in like the 50 to 60 range.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Getting it at some points, you know, going face forward on a little piece of I don't know what that is, plastic or good luck.

SPEAKER_01

Good luck to all them people, man, in the Olympics. They're I mean they're killing uh go team USA, and and if you're a liberal, I guess go everybody else but us. I mean, it's true.

SPEAKER_03

They don't they I meant like they they watch and they have like a pile of different flags.

SPEAKER_01

Ukraine, yay!

SPEAKER_03

Um, let's see, Cossack stand. I hate the U.S.

SPEAKER_01

I hate them. Uh uh, did you also hold on? So getting into a little political, uh, we won't go do too much today because I I I haven't really been paying attention this past week because I had to take a break from it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well, the one thing that we were talking about that seemed odd that in day two of it was the Savannah Guthrie's mother. Oh, yeah. Like, every time you turn on the news, right, it's like the police have been back out at Savannah Guthrie's mother's home. You know, it it's it's it's they're they're trying to distract you from something because that's just ain't normal how much we're watching that. Yes, a horrible thing, and it deserved attention in the beginning, but now it's it's her family. And the FBI should be like dealing with that, not not making a series TV series out of it every time you turn on the news. It's odd, you know.

SPEAKER_01

I hope they find her.

SPEAKER_03

Uh yeah, well, they will. I unfortunately I don't think it's gonna be good at this point.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, who knows? Who knows? Who knows? I don't know. But did did you see where uh Trump is tr uh trying to pass no property tax on the elderly, 65 or plus, no more property tax.

SPEAKER_03

That should totally happen. Yeah. It's it's stupid that you have to pay tax on something that you spend all your money to buy and your property.

SPEAKER_01

And now you're retired and you still gotta pay.

SPEAKER_03

You still gotta pay. Yeah, yeah. I would love for that to happen. Yeah, it should happen.

Media Obsession And Missing Person Coverage

SPEAKER_01

Yes. You know what? It you might not like a hundred percent of what Trump does, but you gotta like some of the stuff the guy's doing. You've got to, man. I mean, I'm not a big like me and you have the same feeling about like like medical insurance.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's screwed up, yeah. It is, yeah. There's no doubt about it on either side. Got that, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think, and I think you know, we should take care of each other. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_03

Um and last but not least, I think there shouldn't be these drug commercials that are on TV, every other commercial.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, I was wondering.

SPEAKER_03

It used not to be like that, man. And like it's it's it's constantly, you're constantly bombarded. And like last night uh over the weekend, we saw this. I don't know which one it was. There's a new one that pops up every other day. And the symptoms I just had a headache, you know. Now I got anal bleeding and freaking, you know, uh all this other stuff, man. It's like, but no, they had one that popped up and it was talk about get on your a game, and it was some kind of riszy, you know, whatever name drug, and it was all people with HIV, and like it was dudes on dudes, and like they were talking about sexual contact, and like my daughter's in there, my 12-year-old, and like what what do they mean? Protected sex, and like I'm like, oh, really? I gotta have this conversation with her now. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean it's but it's because of a stupid drug commercial talking about HIV, you know, and and no man, and this was at this was at like five o'clock, you know, five o'clock in the evening.

SPEAKER_01

Did they say anything about anal bleeding?

Policy Chat: Seniors’ Property Tax

SPEAKER_03

I'm pretty sure that's how it started. Anal leakage, you know, blood, AIDS, you know. I'm sure that's how it all started. Man, I man, I hate that. But I don't like that our kids are having to be subjected to hearing about this stuff.

SPEAKER_01

Well, why why are you advertising, you know, why why advertise drugs so much?

SPEAKER_03

Like I your doctors will tell you what's out there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

You know, you don't have to um put it on um prime time normal TV.

SPEAKER_01

Or you'd be your own Web D old your own web MD doctor.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah, you can find it if you Google it, I'm sure. You don't need to uh to advertise the stuff. I mean, it's it's out of hand, man. I wish they could do something about that. Another good cool thing though that I heard um talking about glyphosates, uh mentioned that to you. Oh yeah, you know, um, our food. I was listening to the podcast with uh Theo Vaughn and he had uh Kennedy on there and uh he was talking about um or Maha movement man and uh he was talking about glyphosates and uh that's you know I'm carnivore for the most part. And um glyphosates have are a a pesticide that's put on plants, right? And uh that's another issue with eating um vegetables. Unfortunately, uh you know, you've heard of the Roundup lawsuits that happened. People got on it and they gave them lymphoma, you know, cancer um from all that. Well, glyphosates is another one that they put on our our food, and uh people were having problems from that.

SPEAKER_01

But that's more reason to grow your own.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well, if you can, you know, a lot of people can't, but I mean it's it it it is out of hand. I mean, you you don't know which way to go. There's some there's something wrong with this, or something wrong with this. But other countries, you know, and we have other countries that listen to us, you know, they don't have these things in their country, you know.

SPEAKER_01

So why in the hell do we have it?

Drug Ads, Kids, And Boundaries

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, why do we have it? You know, it makes you wonder, but there are other factors, there are other factors like feeding a population, a growing population, yeah, which you know I'm kind of conspiracy theory on that. I think they're trying to shrink the population with things like um the uh the shot.

SPEAKER_01

Well, dude, well, yeah, well, that's a yeah.

SPEAKER_03

The whole the whole the gay push, uh I think that is, I think this is all stuff to control population.

SPEAKER_01

Um man, I tell you what, I like my little spot, you know, yeah at the house.

SPEAKER_03

Well yeah, what was cool also was uh that he he uh talked about there is a um there's a laser how did he say it? It was a laser um thing that that sh kills weeds and insects instead of having a pesticide, right? You know, a a dangerous, poisonous, um cancer-causing pesticide. It's a laser and it shoots like hundreds of thousands of weeds and insects and um in an hour in like an hour or so. It's crazy what what this thing can do. But of course, it's you know very expensive.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

All all stuff like that starts out very expensive. Uh so you know, uh if we can get the technology to become less expensive, you know, these these farmers can uh have something like this rather than they don't want to spray this stuff on their food, you know. Right. But they can't afford to have their crops go to waste. Right.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So it's gonna catch 22.

SPEAKER_01

It's gonna be interesting to see what comes of it uh over the next few years.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I thought that was pretty pretty cool.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, so one more thing before we get into our story. Yeah, we gotta give it up to our man, the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.

SPEAKER_03

Rubio, I heard, did uh he got a standing ovation. Yeah, he did a really good job. Uh I did not hear it all. I was getting my breakfast and stuff ready this morning and just had the news on and I heard him mention it about him.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I I watched I I watched parts of it uh as I could. And man, I'm telling you, dude, he is he knows what he's doing. He can talk. Yeah. And I think majority, I think when he was voted in, he was voted in like 99 to zero.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I heard that he's he's running, he could be a potential candidate um for 2028. Uh him and um JD. JD, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So hell. That'll be interesting.

SPEAKER_01

Very, very interesting. I I I like Marco. He's done a really good job. I'm very impressed.

SPEAKER_03

The conservative side has some good people. Democrat side, I don't know who they got. Cuckoo. Sorry, guys, but I mean, y'all need to come up with somebody that's semi-level headed. Y'all, y'all don't really I mean, I hate to say it, but Fred Petterman's your best friend. I mean, I thought he was cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, you know, when he first came out. But no. But I guess when he had his uh emergency, you know, thing that happened to him, it knocked some sense into him or something because he's he's he's fairly fairly level headed and uh he's fairly objective, which is uh a breath of fresh air from the other side. Right. I think that's what you guys need.

Glyphosate, Lawsuits, And Farm Tech

SPEAKER_01

Well um speaking of crazy, our next story coming up. Oh, yeah. It's kind of crazy. So we're gonna go ahead and tell you a little bit about uh our guy. We have we haven't even named this guy yet. Oh yeah. Um or we can call him stupid. Um we just call him stupid. Um he uh so this guy we bonded him out. All right, so we're gonna take you through the whole thing.

SPEAKER_03

Give him a name, man.

SPEAKER_01

Give him a name. All right. Uh Dumb Dumb Stupid. No, name who's uh a bright one. Um call him Steve.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, sure. Steve. All right, Steve. Sorry, Steve, if you're out there. So don't mean to pick on you.

SPEAKER_01

So Steve calls us and uh wants us to bond him out of jail one day. Well, he calls Chad. Chad calls me, hey, go down to Brunswick. Okay, cool. Go down to Brunswick, bond the kid out. Uh I want to say it was like a five or ten thousand. Uh so we bonded the kid out. He was, you know, this has been a long time ago, too.

SPEAKER_03

I think he was a thief. I think it was like a larceny charge.

SPEAKER_01

I want to say, yeah, somewhere around there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I remember talking to him when he got out. He was everything was good. You know, he goes to a couple of court dates, and then all of a sudden, bam, he misses court. We get a forfeiture, and now we're looking. Right. Uh well, he is a Mr. Steve is a Mr. Suave.

SPEAKER_03

In his own mind, yeah. In his own mind, he is. He is uglier than he likes chatting it up on the internet with girls and on social media.

SPEAKER_01

Right, right. And then we're watching. We're watching. So we have a friend of ours who is a girl reach out to him. And now this time, I think me and me and that was me and uh PD at another bounty hunter around here. Yeah, we were out doing something. And Chad's, you know, working a computer or whatever. And hey, we got a hit from the guy, he's trying to meet up with our girl. So, all right, cool. Sends us the place.

SPEAKER_03

The girl, the girl arranges a meeting, yeah, um spot. Yes. The whole non-time setup. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So uh we go grab him. We actually go grab him without incident. Uh-huh. Take him to jail. He was cool. The whole time on the way to jail, though. He's texting this girl. Well, no, no, no, no. This is this is the first time.

SPEAKER_03

First time we got it. I thought he did the first time too.

SPEAKER_01

Well, he he was. Okay. But it was better the second time around.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So, but the first time he was telling us about his girl, how he's about to get lucky and the whole nine. And I was like, all right, all right, whatever. So he was like, look, man, I he goes, I honestly didn't mean to miss court. He was like, he was, I was like, all right.

SPEAKER_03

He wasn't a bad guy, but you know, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta live up to it. You gotta go to court, man. Sorry.

SPEAKER_01

So we let him sit for a couple days, and then we had a different co-signer call and said, Hey, look, let's get him out. I'm like, okay, cool.

SPEAKER_03

Cool. It wasn't bad, dude.

SPEAKER_01

So Chad was like, all right, let's go get him. Yeah. Now the second time around, if he missed on us, we knew what we were going to do to try to get him. Because the first time he didn't learn his lesson.

Rubio’s Speech And 2028 Guesswork

SPEAKER_03

So, all right, so he never got to meet the girl the first time that he was going to meet.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So that that meeting never happened. But that flame still burned for.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, his it it was burning like in his loins. He wanted her so bad.

SPEAKER_03

Poor Steve.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah. Wanted her so bad. So we bond him, we go down there and bond him out again. Of course, you know, had to talk to him. Hey, don't be missing court. You know, you don't want to be doing this again. We don't want her to come get you. Well, of course, what's he do?

SPEAKER_03

Steve misses again.

SPEAKER_01

Steve misses again.

SPEAKER_03

Well, now you're on bond B.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Which is not good.

SPEAKER_01

On the same charge, sir. Same charge. You're not going to be able to get out again.

SPEAKER_03

Not looking good for you.

SPEAKER_01

Not looking good at all. So he misses again. I go to Chad and Lady Jay, what are we going to do?

SPEAKER_03

Contact the girl and uh let's do it again. See if see if she can reach out and say, uh, what happened to you that day? Right. Thought we were going to meet up. You stood me up. Yeah. Put it on him, put it on him, you know? And like that way it looks like he like she really wanted to meet him.

SPEAKER_01

So our girl reaches out to him.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

And but the whole time, you know, I'm I'm also using a number that he thinks it's her, but it's actually me. And yeah. Anyway, so but and so this girl's helping us with the whole, you know, set up on him.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

So I look at Chad. I was like, Chad, let's do this again.

SPEAKER_03

We got us a new date, time, and location.

Main Story Setup: Bonding “Steve”

SPEAKER_01

And I said, This time, this time I was like, don't be setting me up again. I don't, I don't like this, this shit happening again to me. And and I'm showing Chad this the whole time. He's like, All right, hook, line, and sinker. We got him. You know, he's like, no, baby. No, baby. I'm gonna, I'm gonna do everything I can. I'm gonna wine and dine you. They don't worry. I got busted by the you know, by the bounty hunters. Don't worry about it. Ain't having this time. I'm smart. All right. All right. No problem. If you're that smart, why are you talking to me? So and he now remind you, he's only spoken with this girl a couple of times online, like, like voice a couple of times.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, did they speak on and on on the phone?

SPEAKER_01

On the phone, like maybe once or twice.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. All right. So you did get get to actually hear a voice. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So uh so me and Chad go out uh and because we had set up a date, Steve wanted to see the girl. And what you got there? You got another bond?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Uh$25,000.

SPEAKER_01

Ooh.

SPEAKER_03

I got two dollars. I got two dollars. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let me uh let me let me.

SPEAKER_01

Right, right. Alright, so let me explain this to you guys. So the second time we had everything set up that we're supposed to meet that night, and he was bragging about how they, you know, how he was on the run and they couldn't find him. So I was like, the whole time me and Chad are smiling, smiling at each other. And so we get out there and he, dude, he's like in the he's in the woods and his old abandoned house. And we go up in there and we surround a house and we tell him to come out. And he comes out with no incident, right? And we get him in handcuffs, and you know what was he saying the whole time? Man, I can't believe this happened.

SPEAKER_03

Happened to me again. What do you mean again? What are you talking about, dude? What's going on? What he's this girl, man. She's fine. She's fine. I'm gonna I'm supposed to meet her. Showing us pictures, yeah, talking about how he was gonna get laid. Yeah, she was fine. And uh like, man, I hate to interrupt that for you. Oh man, that sucks, man.

SPEAKER_01

Do you want me to wait here for you? So you so he had no idea what was up.

SPEAKER_03

No, he didn't, man. Dude was not too bright and uh at putting one and one together.

First Miss, First Capture

SPEAKER_01

Uh I'm we're driving to the jail. I'm driving, and Chad's in the passenger seat, and homeboy's in the back seat, you know, old old boo hoo and he's in handcuffs, but we let him have his phone. Yeah, yeah, we let him have his phone. And Chad, you tell you tell the next part of the story.

SPEAKER_03

So, like um we're we're going down the road, and I see uh Rob's phone buzzing over there, and uh he was texting the number, yeah, thinking he was talking to the girl. It was really Rob.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I'm over there smiling.

SPEAKER_03

I'm trying not to laugh so hard. Yeah, yeah. It's like baby, they they got me again.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they got me again, baby.

SPEAKER_01

I'm so sorry. And I'm looking at Chad. I'm going, Chad, look at this shit, right? And he's just he's doing everything he can not to like fall out laughing, and so I text him back. I was like, Motherfucker, you ain't doing this to me. This is it, I'm done with you. Yeah, and he's in the back going, man, I screwed up, man. I was supposed to y'all supposed to go hook up with this girl, and it happened, and y'all got me again, man. Y'all got the worst time, and I was like, Man, that does suck. Yeah, that does suck the whole time. And he kept talking about it the whole time to the jail, right? Yeah, and then once he got in jail, and went out, they blimped the door. I looked at Chad and go, Hey, Chad, you want to bond him out again? Because I think we could get him again on a third time.

Second Bond, Second Miss

SPEAKER_03

We could, if it wasn't for that law that you know, the third strike rule, yeah, that Bon C. I I I th I I tell you, man, that is holding a lot of people up in jails across the state of North Carolina. If that that law wasn't in effect, man, it would free up a lot of space, a lot of money. Um so if anybody who's listening to the show that's you know in the higher ups and and lawmaking in North Carolina, hey So just to refresh, to remind people, we have a we have a uh what's called a bond C rule in North Carolina. When you're first arrested, it's bond A. All right, you miss court for that case. You're rearrested. Now you're under bond B. Okay. You miss court for that one. All right, that's twice you've missed. Now you're under what's called bond C. Right. Now there's a place on the paperwork when we go get you out called conditions of release form, and has a checklist of things that you have to comply with in order to be on bond. One of them has a box and it's checked, and it says this is the defendant's second or subsequent failure to appear in this case or matter. When that box is checked, they're giving us notice. This person has missed court at least two times for the same case. If you write this bond, you can write it. But if they miss court for any reason, any reason the alarm clock don't go off. You got a flat tire, somebody couldn't give you a ride. It doesn't matter if you're not in court.

SPEAKER_01

You found the wrong courtroom and you're late by one minute, it's done.

SPEAKER_03

We have to pay the full amount of the bond. Yep. Therefore, bondsmen do not like doing these bonds because we can't control what'll happen to you on the day of court. We can find you, but we can't control you getting up or flat tire or any of that stuff. So that law is holding a lot of people in jails, in my opinion, unnecessarily. I mean, I get that you want to make the person go to court. That's our job, that's what we do. But you're holding up a lot of people. Stuff could have happened. I mean, honestly.

SPEAKER_01

So Steve got a Bon C and stayed in jail for a while until his court case was over with, and he did his sentence and he got out. And I think he tried hitting me up one more time, but I just ignored him. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Playing hard to get our turn. Oh, yeah, playing hard to get, man.
